Saxon Switzerland
Region description
For a long long time the scenery was evolving apart from the world around, untouched by a man´s hand. That´s why we can nowadays enjoy the beauty around and feel like in a fairy tale.
Along the state boundary on its south side the national park Saxon Switzerland melts into the national park Czech Switzerland. The region of Saxon Switzerland is considered as the first region in Europe where the tourism started to work. Due to the long tradition of the tourism, you can expect a high quality service in the region. There are many quality hotels and pensions of higher standard there.
The biggest attractions of the area are the touristic trails of a different difficulty leading through the scenery of the rocky towns, the mesas, the passes, deep gorges and hillsides. The whole area is a paradise for the rock climbers. You don´t have to be a member of any climbing club to be allowed to climb up the rocks. You can enjoy your trip visiting any of the big castles in the surrounding area, e.g. Konigstein – the largest rocky town in Europe. The boat rides through the huge canyon of high sandstone´ rocks lining the Elbe river are also very catching. You can get as far as Dresden.
