Description of touristic attraction

Belveder

There is an amazing bird's eye view from The Belveder. You can see the Elbe canyon, a huge valley surrounded by high rocks with the Elbe River flowing through. In the summertime, at evenings, when the sky is painted with so many beautiful colors, it's a magical place.  Maybe that was one reason why František Clary-Aldringen had the terrace built (1701 - 1711). He had the rock flattened which created a terrace. He later made an artificial arch in the opposite rock and decorated it with stone theatre masks. The several relaxing activities took place in there, musical and theatrical performances for the nobility from near-by Býnovecký castle. After the castle was burnt, the nobility was not interested in the performances anymore and on the contrary the local people started to attend this place more. Due to the tourism progress in the region a wooden pub was built here and later replaced by the stone one even with the rooms for stay.

Legend: Formerly there were no paths leading to Hřensko. The only way to get to there was by the Elbe River. It is said that when František Clary-Aldringen, Belveder´s master, came to Hřensko he was always welcomed by a musical orchestra. František Clary-Aldringen called this music "naughty school music".
