Jilovský Castle

The very first mentions of the castle are around 1348.  The castle was then a fortress belonging to the castle Lipý.  As time passed, this fortress went through several reconstructions until it appears today as a renaissance castle.
In 1529 a nobleman, Jindřich from bunau, bought the manor. Later in the 16th century his sons built a completely new castle in the saxon renaissance style. In 1629 the manor was sold to the Thun family who kept the property till the end of World War 2. At the end of World War 2 the Thun family was moved out and there possessions confiscated. The castle had been rebuilt between 1928 and 1930 when it was changed into a modern "family seat" occupied by the Thun family. As a part of the reconstruction of the castle a beautiful romantic park with a little lake, gardens and sports fields was created. The dominating features of the park were a terraced garden with alpine plants and a little lake at the bottom. After 1945 the castle was used, among other things, as a holiday house for some of Stalin's soldiers, a children's home and, finally, a dormitory. Since 2000 the castle has been the property of the town Jílové. A complete reconstruction has been started. The castle has been opened to the public since 2005. 
We recommend you visit not only the renaissance buildings and the rooms of the Thun family but also the beautiful garden.

Directions: From Mírové Square you go by the town office then follow the paved path directly to the castle (app. 50 m)

July to August: Tuesday - Sunday  10:00-17:00; May, June and September: Saturday, Sunday, National days  10-17 h
