Tanečnice

At the frontier with Germany, on a granite hill called Tanečnice, you can find the northernmost view tower in the Czech republic. From the view tower there is a beautiful view of Germany and when its nice weather you can see as far as Czech-Saxon Switzerland and the Krkonoše. 
A legend tells us that the hill was named after a pretty girl. She was a dancer. She often went dancing on the hill. It is said that she might have even seduced a huntsmen by her nice dancing. The view tower is at 597 meters and according to the available evidence in the 1830´s there was a wooden view tower there used for surveying purposes. In the beginning of the 20th century a new, also wooden, view tower was built there by a mountaineering club. This club was created by local people to help with the construction of the new view tower. Unfortunately, in 1903 the tower was ruined by "mother nature" so in 1905 a new eight-sided, granite based and brick view tower was built by Josef Scholz, a builder from Mikulášovice. The view tower is 16 meters high and there are 138 stairs leading to the top. In the 1970´s the view tower was rebuilt and the former cottage that was burned to the ground in 1946 was replaced by a restaurant. So nowadays you can refresh yourself there. Next to the view tower there is also a well that is about 25 meters deep.

Directions: You walk from Mikulášovice to Tanečnice following the blue tourist trail

View tower: Monday to Sunday 11:00 to 18:00.
Restaurant: Monday to Sunday 11:00 to 18:00.
