Bad Schandau

The border town is the biggesst in Saxon Switzerland and is one of the starting points for the tourists for wandering through Saxon Switzerland. The increase of the tourism dates back to the beginning of the 19th century when the transport in the area developed, both shipping and railway.
Bad Schandau is known as the oldest spa town in Saxon where in 18th century the healing spring was discovered. Dr. Kneipp than made the spa famous with his healing cures.  Nowadays "Toskana Therme" is very popular, the thermal spa that was reconstructed after the floods, there are several pools where the guests dive into a different world thank to the meditation music, aromatherapy and the luminous effects.  In the areal there are saunas, wellness departments, restaurants.
Right behind the spa promenade you can get to romantic valley of the stream Kirnitzsch from where the historical electric railway departs in regular intervals.
In the centre you can visit a botanical garden, a museum, a church or take the electric lift up above Bad Schandau...
Bad Schandau is suitable starting point for the trips to surrounding, it is possible to do the sports there and mainly the cycling trail leads here along the Elbe river, for the passive rest you can visit several cosy cafés and restaurants.

Arrival:

By car: from the border point Hřensko / Schmilka follow the road 172, from the border it is about 3 km
By train: from the station Schoena (the first stop behind the border) with S1 (S-Bahn, line No.1) to Bad Schandau, Koenigstein...you will get off at the station Bad Schandau, to the centre you take the ferry across the Elbe river or you can go from the railway station over the bridge.
By ship: from Hřensko along the flow to the port Bad Schandau
