Village description
Janská
Janská is situated west of Česká Kamenice in the valley of Kamenice river. The name Janská was probably given by Jan from Michalovice, the owner of the manor of that time. The village belongs among the oldest ones in the region of Česká Kamenice, first mentions of the village date back to 1380. During the reign of Kinsky family when glass making, trade and textile production were succesful, the village developed a lot. The well-known manufacturer was Franz Preidl who ran several spinning mills. His factories were very technically developed and even became often visited tourist attraction. In 30´s of the 20th century the factories were closed and Czechoslovak army settled in the buildings, during the war the army was replaced by german one. In 1942 the spinning mills were occupied by Big-German Empire and given for use to company Weserflugzeugbau Bremen, that made the aircrafts and weapons. Using the work of captives from working and concentration camps in the region, the underground spaces were built and the production was supposed to move there. Nowadays there is an underground museum consisting of two individual parts. We are sure you will be fascinated by the collection of contemporary objects and the tour through the galleries while listening to the story of son of one of the totally embattled worker. In the beginning of the 20th century the count Kinsky naturalized the Janské chamois that are still living in the area. In Janská you should not miss the adrenalin park which is the highest suspension centre in Europe built on wooden columns. In summer it is opened on the weekends. You will be offered the climbing wall, roping down the rock overhang 40 m long, a giant Jacob´s ladder, a funicular 140m long, a giant adrenalin swing for the brave ones.
