Village description
Koenigstein
Koenigstein is the small town under the biggest rock fortification in Europe. In its surrounding you can go cycling, go for the trips, go rock climbing, horseback riding, swimming... It is the starting point for walks on the mesas through the romantic valleys. The dominating feature is still the fortification Koenigstein where you can get by the holiday bus if you do not wish to go on foot. In the village there are several cosy café´s and restaurants where you can taste the local specials. You can get to Koenigstein either by train, bus, ship or ferry.
The perfect conditions of transport are the plus for the town. Koenigstein is actually accessible by any means of transport (except the airplane). The regular old storied bus "Basteikraxler" rides from the square "Reissirgerplatz" and since the last year it is also riding through the border to Bohemian Switzerland to get the visitors under the Pravčická gate. This attraction belongs among the most interesting ones. Except the world known fortification it is also worth to visit the mesas Lilienstein and Pffafenstein and the "rock needle" Barbarine, "the robber´s caves" that is the biggest storied cave in Saxon Switzerland. In the town district Leupoldishain you can see the rock labyrinth.
