Krásná Lípa

The small town is situated on the border of Preserved landscape areas Labské sandstones and Lužické mountains. The first mentions of the settlement date back to the 14th century. Unttil 1614 Krásná Lípa belonged to Tolštejn´s manor and then it was added to Kamenice´s manor. The inhabitants were mainly making the linen for living, in 1731 the first workshop for yarn was found. Other artisan´s workshops started up and the town became the important centre of textile production and trade. Also the construction of the railway in 1869 contributed to the development of the town. In the end of Worl War II. many houses were destroyed, including some interesting buildings, but still the town kept the monumental sense. In the town you can find many baroque and classical houses with decorated  portaly and also the buildings from the neorenaissance. There are lots of timbered houses or houses paneled with wood with a base. One of them is right in the square and comes from 1729. Many of the local houses are monumentally protected. In 1882 in Krásná Lípa the first Mountain club in our republic came into being and was significant in development of tourism and creating the touristic trails. The dominating feature is the baroque church of St. Máří Magdaléna, built in the half of the 18th century, that stands on the square. Next to the church there is a baroque rectory with camp roof.
If you want to rest from the everyday rush and get the new strength you can go to the large park that is in the south-west of the square. You can find many rare dřevin, a lake with an island, a small stream, a mauzoleum and the lion´s statue with the memorial desks of the victims of  prussian war.
Krásná Lípa is home of the company that made the motorcycles Čechie- Böhmerland. In the square there is a memorial desk of this brand´s constructor Albin Hugo Liebisch. Since 1999 the international meetings of the owners of these motorcycles have been regularly taking place in Krásná Lípa, so you can admire all the precious types of this brand.
Krásná Lípa is also an administrative seat of the National park Bohemian Switzerland. You can visit the information centre of the National park in the house U Frinda in Křinické square.
For sports you should visit the reconstructed sport areal of Bohemian Switzerland. You find  the tennis courts with synthetic and clay surface, training tennis wall, the field for beach volleyball, minigolf, the field for ballgames and children´s playground with swing sets there. The square is also the starting point for many touristic and cycling trails that will lead you through virgin nature of the national park. On the way you can go swimming to the natural pool in Kyjov, walk through the romantic Kyjovské valley or visit former rock castles on the tops of the rocks.
