Village description
Srbská Kamenice
Srbská Kamenice is situated in the romantic valley of Kamenice river about 5 kilometres south of Jetřichovice and 7 kilometres north-west of Česká Kamenice. First evidence of the village dates back to 1O15. Architectural dominating feature is St. Wenceslas´ church built in 1772-76.The altar and the bells were taken from the original wooden church that was built around 1350.
The dominating feature is the Růžovský hill, (619 metres above sea), sometimes called "Dečínská Fudžijama", that has many myths around. Nowadays "Růžák", as it is called by local people, is included in the 1st zone of the national park. During the Napoleon´s wars the observation point was built on the top. In the end of the 19th century the owner of the mansion Clary-Aldringen let the view point with a pub built. It was visited by tourists from the surrounding till the 30´s of the 20th century when it burnt down and was left its destiny. And so nowadays you can only find the ruins. Another favourite touristic attraction was the boat ride through the Ferdinand´s pass named after the successor to the Austrian-Hungarian throne Ferdinand D´Este who even visited the pass himself. The boat ride led up to the Dolský mill. If you want to take the boat ride through the canyon of Kamenice river, you will have to go to near-by Hřensko.
The village is a perfect place for touristic and cycling trips to the surrounding. We recommend to follow the yellow touristic trail in Růžovský hill direction, then over the Kamenická hillside to Dolský mill from where you get along the rocks edges above the Ferdinand´s pass to Srbská Kamenice, following the blue touristic trail. The trail is 16,5 kms long and while climbing up "Růžák" you will have to overcome the surpassing of 400 metres. Those ones who do not want to climb up can of course skip it. :) Another very interesting place in the heart of the village is a lovely cave above the lake. Behind the pension Vesna there is a path that takes you up the lake and to the wood where the stream of drinking water springs forth. After next hundred metres you will have to climb up the steep path to the rocks where you can find the rest of original fence and the unforgettable view through the trees. If you want to get to the cave, you have to walk up the stairs into the rock internals.
In the village you can find lots of pensions and restaurants. At the end of the village in Jetřichovice direction there is also a camp "U Ferdinanda". Every year in August and September the international music festival of classical and spiritual music is held in the local church. From May to the beginning of October in Srbská Kamenice the Open-air museum of Czechoslovakian fence 1938 is opened every Saturday.
