Village description

Tisá

The village Tisá is the gate to the romantic area of Labské sandstones. In the centre of the village you can visit the late-baroque Church of St. Anne from where a direct trail leads to Tiské walls. It takes you to a fantastic rock town with many bizarre sandstone formations. Until the 20´s of the 20th century the entry was prohibited without a guide. Nowadays the whole area is a paradise for the tourists and rock climbers for whom there are 113 registered climbing trails. Except Small and Big walls you can also visit less known rock towns in the north of Tisá - Ostrovské and Rájecké rocks. Tisá is situated in the protected landscape area "Labské sandstones", 20 km from Ústí nad Labem and 5 km from Petrovice, the crosspoint to Germany. The village is in the height of 550 m in Děčínské walls, known as Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland. The villages Ostrov, Rájec and the settlement Antonínov belong to the administrative area of Tisá as well.

The preserved landscape area Labské sandstones is the part of large sandstone´s table that was created 90 millions years ago in chalk era of Secondary. After the sea recession,  that used to be in this place at that time,  the layers of sedimented sandstones stayed there, strengthened with different cements. As the time passed due to the movements of the global ground these sediments cracked. Gradual disintegration, erosion, the action of the water and the material´s taking caused the creation of abundantly articulated scenery with deep canyons with perpendicular walls with plentiful models.

The most western part of Labské sandstones are Tiské walls, named after village Tisá. Above the north periphery of the village there is a huge,  up to 70m rising wall. In the highest peak they reach up to 613 m above the sea and in the length of almost 1 kilometer they lead to the east and end at the Tourist cottage.  We can see all the forms of sandstone rocks. There are the huge walls as well as the individual isolated towers and slim needles. Those ones offer to rock climbers many climbs from easy ones to the highest degrees of difficulty. The groups of tower-forms are similar to castle bastions. Among them there are the narrow passes with perpendicular walls, and also the wild gorges and ravines. By falling rocks in some places the "rocky seas" with huge rocks were created. The entrance to Tiské walls is the rocky square where two marked trails lead from. On the left to the west the shorter circle leads to Small Tiské walls and goes back from the north. On the right to the east the trail to Big Tiské walls starts. From the rocky square the red tourist trail leads along the upper edge of the walls above the valley and the village Tisá with the views as far as the south of České středohoří. The trail continues from the Tourist cottage to Ostrov and takes you up the top of Děčínský Sněžník (726m) where there is a 30m high stone view point built in 1864. The red tourist trail ends in Děčín.

The whole length of the trail is 19km. In the north-west at the village Rájec - the local district of Tisá, Tiské walls are followed with Rájecké rocks. They are created by the massif of hard sandstone with the rock towers. The northern part is called Bird´s walls, in the south the rocks continue through Rájecké valley. In the north-east of Tisá there is a bordering village Ostrov (the district of Tisá) that is surrounded by Ostrovské rocks. The walls and towers, up to 20 m high, are from very hard sandstone and that is why they are searched by rock climbers.  Also two signed cycling circles lead through Tiské walls and further continue to Děčínský Sněžník. Near by the village there is a 500 m long ski lift operating in winter.
